Pair indicted in death of Warm Springs woman

Posted: Updated:

A federal grand jury indicted two women accused of murdering a woman whose body was found in a remote area of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in north-central Oregon.

Twenty-year-old Tana Lawrence and 25-year-old Angeledith Smith pleaded not guilty at their arraignment Friday in Portland.

The grand jury alleges Smith and Lawrence murdered Faron Kalama on Sept. 29 during the course of a burglary, a kidnapping and a sexual assault.

Grand jurors also indicted Curtis Brown as an accessory to the murder. Brown, however, was also charged with murder Friday in an apparently unrelated homicide on the reservation.

Authorities say he fatally shot Jonas Miller on Sept. 23. Brown pleaded not guilty at the same arraignment.
