NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -
Two young surfers were rescued from the rocks at Agate Beach near Yaquina Head Friday.
Rescue crews were called out at 10:40 a.m. after a 16-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were found 15 feet above the water line on rocks about 100 feet from shore.
Small boat crews and rescue teams were not able to safely reach the children, so a Coast Guard helicopter was deployed to the scene.
The helicopter crew was able to reach the kids, hoist them from the rocks and take them safely to shore where emergency responders were waiting for them.
Nobody was hurt.
The Coast Guard said people need to use extreme caution along the coast. In addition to dangerous rip currents and debris, beachgoers can quickly become stranded by incoming tides.
