VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -
Rain is a welcome sight to firefighters, but brings a new threat to the forest - landslides.
Fire activity is expected to come to an end in the Mt. Adams area today after inundating rains are snuffing out the last flames. But the recently denuded terrain is vulnerable to dangerous landslides and the public is being put on notice.
The Forest Service is warning that debris flows are possible throughout the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. But the Mt .Adams area is especially at risk. The Service warns the most affected drainages will be Cascade, Morrison, Salt and Crofton creeks, along with any of the major drainages around the forest.
The Forest Service is also concerned about drainages around the Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.
