PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Fox 12 has teamed up with the Portland Timbers to take part in Stand Together Week. The event brings the community together to help non-profit groups in the area.
On Friday, Timbers forward Danny Mwanga and midfielder Charles Renken braved the rain to kick around the soccer ball with children at Vance Park.
Earlier in the day, 75 volunteers, including some of Fox 12's on-air personalities, headed to the Oregon Food Bank to help pack and prepare carrots to be handed out in food boxes. The volunteers re-packaged more than 11,000 pounds of carrots for needy families. According to the Oregon Food Bank, that will add up to nearly 8,600 meals.
By the time Stand Together Week wraps up on Sunday, almost 1,000 volunteers will have helped out.
