Portland police have arrested a man in connection with a robbery at Gator's Bar and Grill on Southeast Powell just before 2 a.m. Saturday.
Suspect, Antwaun Spencer, was booked on charges including robbery and attempt to elude, as well as reckless driving.
Police say a second suspect remains in the hospital, after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg while trying to run away.
Investigators say a 911 call was received from Gator's around 1:44 a.m., reporting an armed robbery. An employee told Fox 12 the suspects forced everyone inside the beer cooler, and then stole money from the register and two patrons.
The bartender hit the panic button, and a police officer happened to be in the area, according to the employee.
"I heard, 'Stop! It's the police,'" said Corey Turner who lives across the street. "I saw what looked like someone driving off, and a cop chasing him."
The suspects immediately sped away; officers pursued the vehicle before it crashed into a parked car at Southeast 52nd and Taylor Street.
One suspect was captured by police and taken into custody; the second suspect disappeared into the neighborhood.
"The report is he dropped his gun and shot himself, jumped in the neighbor's yard and tried to steal a bicycle," said Murray Renick who woke up to the commotion.
Police set up a perimeter and began to search the neighborhood with a police K-9 unit.
The K-9 track led officers to a house on Southeast 51st Avenue where the suspect had barricaded himself in a mud room attached to the house.
Police called in the SERT team and Crisis Negotiation Team since they were concerned he was still armed.
Police held a tight perimeter around the house until the suspect started yelling that he had been shot in the leg.
The suspect was taken to a Portland hospital with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg.
No officers, community members or patrons of the bar were injured during the robbery and chase.
