A man accused of firing more than 50 paintballs at police officers in Eugene on Sunday afternoon faces numerous criminal charges, according to the Eugene Police Department.
According to investigators, officers responded to a disorderly conduct call in the 800 block of West 4th Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. Officers said a male resident began firing a paintball gun at officers from his porch and front doorway, striking two officers.
Investigators said the man was yelling and threatening officers, and had made statements referring to "suicide by cop" to neighbors.
After a 30-minute standoff, officers were able to take the man safely into custody through negotiations and the use of nonlethal munitions, investigators said.
The man was taken to University District Hospital for medical evaluation and was lodged in the Lane County Jail.
