YAMHILL COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -
Rainy weather hampered the efforts of a crew trying to rescue motorists in rural Yamhill County after their car plunged down a steep ravine.
It happened Sunday afternoon on Canyonview Road. Officials said one person climbed up to the road but the other had to be rescued from 100 feet down the embankment.
Both were taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
"We had wanted to have a Life Flight helicopter available but they couldn't fly because of the fog and also just the steepness of the bank and the slickness of the mud and everything else made (the rescue difficult)," said Ken Bilderback, public information officer for Gaston fire. "It would have been a very difficult rescue in the best of situations, but the weather just made it that much more difficult."
It also proved to be difficult to remove the car. The tow line snapped at one point and it took the towing company about an hour to pull the car up to the road.
The case of the crash is still under investigation, but the wet road may have contributed.
