HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -
Hillsboro's minor league baseball team now has its name: the Hillsboro Hops.
The team says the name pays homage to Hillsboro's "proud agricultural heritage" and recognizes a "leading Oregon crop" while tipping its hat tips to a popular baseball term.
The Hops are a short-season affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks and will begin play in Hillsboro in 2013. They'll play in a new ballpark on which the city broke ground Sept. 21.
The $15 million stadium, to be located on Northwest 229th Avenue, is being built at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex.
Hillsboro will own the 4,500-seat stadium, which will be paid for with full faith and credit bonds.
