New online tool shows geologic hazards at your address

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A new tool will allow you to type in your address and find out if you are on a fault line.

The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries is releasing Oregon HazVu, an online statewide geologic hazards viewer.

You enter an address and HazVu will show you what geohazards could affect the area around it, ranging from a Cascadia earthquake and tsunami to volcanoes, landslides, coastal erosion and the 100-year floodplain.

Oregon HazVu can also show areas with active faults, earthquake soft soil hazards and expected shaking.

An open house to check out the new web tool is set for Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries, 800 N.E. Oregon St., suite 965, Portland.

Workers will be there to answer questions.

To check out the new online tool, go to the Oregon HazVu website.
