Having a home emergency plan paid off for a Camas family whose 10-year-old daughter was home sick from school when burglars broke in Tuesday.
Paityn Mock's mother, Jenn, had just left to pick up lunch when burglars rang the doorbell of their home on Northeast 10th Street.
The fifth grader didn't answer the door, instead calling her mom. While on the phone, Paityn became aware that someone had broken into the house. She briefly hid in the pantry until a 911 operator told her to get out of the house.
"They told me to get out of the house as quickly as I could. Then that's when I saw the kid," Paityn said.
With two men -- one who Paityn described as being a teenager -- ransacking the home, Paityn ran out the garage door and hid behind a nearby tree. The family believes the men cut a screen in the master bedroom in order to break in.
Clark County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man sitting in a stolen car outside of the house. In the car, deputies found drugs and stolen guns.
Deputies are still looking for more suspects who left behind a pillow case full of jewelry.
