The Oregon State Police said it is continuing the investigation into Saturday night's two-vehicle, head-on crash along Highway 30 near Rainier. The crash resulted in critical injuries to one person and injuries to four others, including two children.
Investigators said that at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, a pickup driven by Nathan Reeves, age 37, from St. Helens, was southbound on Highway 30 near milepost 44 when it attempted to pass another vehicle. In the process, Reeves collided head-on with a northbound car driven by Jacquelyn Bouchard, age 25, from Longview, Washington.
Reeves was not using safety restraints and was critically injured. He was transported to Oregon Health & Science University.
Bouchard and three of her passengers were injured and transported to local area hospitals. The injured passengers were identified as Andrew Perry, age 29, from Longview; Monica Perry, age 7; and, Aahlyah Perry, age 6.
A 2-year-old girl was also in the car seated in a child safety seat and was not injured. The two adults and other two children were using safety restraints devices.
Trooper Billy Bush with the Oregon State Police is the lead investigator. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor on the part of driver Reeves.
The Oregon State was assisted at the scene by local fire personnel and officers from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the Rainier Police Department, the Clatskanie Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Highway 30 was closed at the crash scene until 2:00 a.m. Sunday.
