PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A local chef is considered a trail blazer in the culinary community.
Cooking Light magazine honored Andy Ricker of Pok Pok in Portland as one of its 2012 Trailblazing Chefs.
The annual awards recognize seven chefs who are doing important work in American cooking. Ricker and the other winners are featured in Cooking Light's 25th anniversary issue.
Ricker won the magazine's Global Flavor Award. The magazine said Pok Pok in Portland and now Brooklyn, NY, are restaurants that represent "an important step away from the cookie-cutter pad Thai joints now found in every U.S. city."
The James Beard Foundation awarded Ricker the Best Chef Northwest Award in 2011.
