SALEM, OR (KPTV) -
A semi crashed into a parked Marion County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 Saturday morning.
Investigators said the truck driver lost control of the semi at 10:45 a.m., hit the barrier on the right shoulder and then crashed into the patrol vehicle.
One of the truck's trailers partially separated from its undercarriage on impact.
The patrol car was totaled and the truck received minor damage. Nobody was hurt.
The investigation is continuing and the truck driver, Michael Dunham, 61, of Oregon City, has not yet been issued a citation.
It all started when Deputy Cody Lane stopped Shannon Duffy, 50, of Brownsville, just before 9 a.m. The deputy said Duffy swerved into the adjacent lane and narrowly missing his marked patrol vehicle as he drove next to her.
Investigators said Duffy was driving her company's van on a suspended license. She was allowed to call a coworker to give her a ride and to recover company property from the van before it was impounded.
Investigators said the deputy remained at the scene to provide a layer of protection while Duffy and her coworker loaded packages from the van into a car. All the vehicles were completely on the right shoulder of the road.
Traffic was moderate at the time, but the rainy weather created slippery roads and limited visibility at the time of the semi crash, according to deputies.
Duffy was cited for careless driving and driving with a suspended license.
