State Rep. Steve Farley has won the Arizona Senate seat in Legislative District 9.

Farley, elected a representative in House District 28 in 2006, said he sought re-election to keep Arizona moving forward. He cited priorities in the areas of  jobs and economic development, education, senior issues, public safety, transportation choices, sustainable growth, fiscal health and quality of life.

Farley campaigned on his past accomplishments, including investing in new technologies and high-wage jobs, expanding health care for self-employed and small-business owners and making long-term care more affordable for middle-class seniors.

The Democrat also cited his work in increasing the production of clean solar energy, outlawing driving while texting and protecting Tucson's sovereignty.

Republican Tyler Mott, of Tucson, said he launched his challenge "in order to help people in the Tucson area overcome our economic recession." He added he supports "the commonsense conservative values that will help get people in Arizona back to work."

The Republican said education must be Arizona's top priority. He pledged to work to improve teacher's pay and provide for more professional development opportunities for educators.

On immigration, he said, "Passing SB1070 at the State Legislature was one of the only options that Arizona citizens had left to enforce the laws that the Obama Administration has refused to enforce and which the federal government has ignored for years."

Concerning mining, Tyler believes that one of his jobs will be to ensure that mining companies remain in compliance.

The new Legislative District 9 is situated in Pima County. It encompasses the north-central and northwest Tucson metropolitan areas east of Interstate-10 and south of the Santa Catalina Mts. Casas Adobes, Catalina Foothills and Flowing Wells are also within its boundaries.
