PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police said they responded to a call indicating a single car had crashed into a light pole at Northeast 74th Avenue and Northeast Halsey Street early Monday morning. 911 callers told police there were two people in the car and that both appeared to be pinned in the vehicle.

Portland Fire and AMR ambulance arrived and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The passenger was cut from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital with serious but unknown injuries.

Investigators said preliminary information indicates the car was likely traveling northbound on Northeast 74th Avenue at a high rate of speed and was not able to negotiate the intersection at Northeast Halsey Street. The vehicle continued north bound and collided with a light pole.

The investigation into this crash is continuing. Both the deceased person and the passenger are adult males. The Traffic Division Major Crash Team was activated and responded to the scene.
