SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Six former members of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes baseball team are celebrating a World Series championship.

The San Francisco Giants are the parent club for the team from Salem-Keizer. The Giants swept the Detroit Tigers in the World Series, winning Game 4 Sunday night in extra innings.

One of the heroes of the final game was catcher Buster Posey, who hit a home run in the sixth inning. Posey played for the Volcanoes in 2008.

World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval played for the local team in 2005, along with Giants pitcher Sergio Romo.

Romo, pitching to Posey, struck out Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera to end the game Sunday.

Tim Lincecum pitched for the Volcanoes in 2006 and Ryan Vogelsong pitched for the team in 1998. Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford was a member of the Volcanoes team in 2008.

Jerry Walker, Volcanoes owner and general manager, said his phone has been ringing off the hook with fans offering their congratulations and sharing their experiences with the players who went through Oregon on their way to the big leagues.

The team is already making plans to celebrate the World Series win at Volcanoes Stadium next year.
