PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The public is getting its first look at a first-of-its-kind police training center in Portland.
The Portland Police Bureau held a community open house at its new Community Policing Training Center at 14902 NE Airport Way on Monday.
Back in March, the City Council voted to fund a police and public safety training facility. Already, there is classroom training taking place at the new building.
"(We) came up with an excellent location, an excellent building and ... it's really only going to require minimal conversion because we got a great deal," Adams said.
Next year, the bureau will start construction on a new part of the facility, which will eventually house all police training in one place.
The new building will make it easier to have more realistic-based training.
