PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A Portland woman passed out while behind the wheel of a car Monday evening, leaving her 2-year-old son to go seek help, police said.
Cassandra Kimmel's 2-year-old son knocked on the front door of a home on Southeast 32nd Avenue about 7 p.m. The homeowner dialed 911 as soon as he discovered Kimmel unresponsive in the driver's seat.
"A little boy came to our door and his mom is collapsed in her car," said the 911 caller. "(She)'s unconscious entirely in a car, slumped over."
Police and paramedics responded after the 911 caller described the scene.
"It looks kind of like a crime scene so I didn't get too close," the 911 caller said. "The driver's door is ajar. I don't know, it just doesn't look right."
Police said Kimmel, whose home is located about four miles away, was so intoxicated that paramedics had to place her on a gurney to get her to the ambulance.
On Tuesday, she was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and child neglect. She pleaded not guilty and has been released from jail.
Kimmel's son was taken into protective custody.
