SALEM, OR (KPTV) -
A 13-year-old middle school student was arrested in Salem Thursday after investigators said he brought a BB gun to school.
It happened just before noon at Adam Stephens Middle School on Hayesville Road Northeast, according to deputies.
Classmates of the boy who became aware of the gun contacted school authorities, who immediately contacted the sheriff's office.
Deputies contacted the eighth-grade student in the gymnasium at the school. They said the boy was given the BB gun several days ago from another student.
The 13-year-old with the gun then took it trick-or-treating on Halloween, according to investigators, before bringing it to school and showing it to around eight students.
Deputies said they found him carrying the loaded BB gun in his waistband and that it looked similar to a semi-automatic pistol.
At no time did the student point the gun at another student, according to deputies.
The student was taken into custody and arrested on disorderly conduct charges. He was issued a citation and released into the custody of his parents.
Details about the teen who allegedly gave him the gun have been referred to the district attorney's office for possible charges.
The school was not placed on lockdown and no students were injured or threatened, investigators said.
Telephone notifications were sent to the parents of every student using the school's auto-dialer system.
