LAKE OSWEGO, OR (KPTV) -

Thieves went on a crime spree through a Lake Oswego neighborhood by breaking into dozens of cars.

Police said thieves burglarized at least 25 cars parked in the neighborhood around Kilkenny Drive early Wednesday morning. They got away with some expensive electronic gadgets like cell phones and iPods.

"About 2:30 in the morning my dog started barking, which is pretty unusual for her in the middle of the night," said Kim Van Syoc-Lapainis.

She looked outside and said she saw a young man breaking into her neighbor's car parked in the driveway.

"When I went ahead and turned the light on in my guest room, I saw him get nervous inside the car," said Van Syoc-Lapainis. "He quickly got out, closed the door ever so slightly, put on his hood, put on his backpack and quickly took off up the hill to our cul-de-sac."

She called 911, but it wasn't until the next day that Van Syoc-Lapainis found out her neighbor wasn't the only victim.

Police say thieves burglarized about 25 other vehicles in the same area.

"It makes us real nervous," said Ray Best.

Thieves stole Best's GPS unit and vehicle registration documents from his glove box.

"It makes you feel violated. It's your property, someone comes into it and they're in a place they shouldn't be. It puts a sour taste in your mouth," said Best.

In most cases, police say the owners left their vehicles unlocked and their valuables sitting in plain sight.

As the holiday season approaches, Lake Oswego police want to remind the public to lock your car and never leave your valuables in plain sight.

There are no suspects in the case.
