Oregon State Police said a traffic stop near Madras led to the discovery of 56 pounds of marijuana in a California man's pickup.

A trooper stopped the 2001 Ford Ranger truck at 3:48 p.m. Sunday on Highway 97 for a speed violation.

The trooper said a subsequent investigation led to a search of the pickup and the discovery of 56 pounds of marijuana within the bed and inside the passenger cab.

Oxycodone tables were also found during the search, according to police.

Investigators said the street value of the drugs is $43,000.

The driver, John Stonebarger, 54, of Fall River Mills, CA, was arrested on charges of unlawful possession, distribution and manufacture of a controlled substance.

Police said he was also driving with a suspended or revoked California license and no insurance.

He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail with bail set at $63,000.
