Voters reject Wood Village casino proposal

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A privately owned casino is not coming to Wood Village or any other Oregon location anytime soon.

Measures 82 and 83 were voted down Tuesday night, according to FOX 12 political analyst Tim Hibbitts.

The results were not unexpected, after supporters suspended their campaign last month. They had already spent millions of dollars working toward building a casino at the now defunct kennel club.

The casino was to be called The Grange.

Three former Oregon governors, along with current Gov. John Kitzhaber, took public stances against the measures.

They said the measures would open the doors for private, foreign-owned casinos to be built across the state.

By 9 p.m. Tuesday, Measures 82 and 83 were being voted down with 72 percent and 71 percent of the vote, respectively.
