Police: Man high on meth attacked officers

Posted: Updated:

A man who dialed 911 from Heavenly Donuts suddenly attacked police officers as they were escorting him to an ambulance Wednesday morning.

Portland police said the man told 911 dispatchers he had been poisoned, and officers responded to the donut shop on Northeast 102nd Avenue at 8:21 a.m.

While officers were en route, the man flagged down a Multnomah County sheriff's deputy for help.

Paramedics and police soon arrived and began preparing him to be taken to a hospital, but without warning, he attacked police and began violently fighting.

"It took several officers to get him to the ground and hold him there until he could be loaded onto a gurney," a police spokesman said.

No officers were injured in the ordeal.

Police said it appears the man was high on methamphetamine at the time. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of a possible drug overdose.
