Portland Rescue Mission's sock and blanket supply nearly depleted

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Cold weather is on its way, and the Portland Rescue Mission needs help stocking up for the winter season.

In preparation for the cold weather, Portland Rescue Mission will expand to make room for 70 additional men to sleep in a warm place. Already, they shelter nearly 180 additional people on a daily basis.

But in addition to warmth, beds and meals, one of the biggest supplies the mission provides the needy is clean, warm socks. They distribute thousands of socks each season, as well as dozens of recycled blankets each day. But as the weather turns, the sock supply has nearly depleted.

To keep up with the increased demand of their facilities, Portland Rescue Mission is asking the public to stop by either the Burnside Shelter, at 11 W. Burnside, or Shepherd's Door, 13207 NE Halsey, and drop off new and gently used blankets.
