PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Rescue Mission has expanded its emergency shelter to house more homeless people this winter.

The mission is providing a safe, warm place for 70 additional men to sleep.

That is in addition to 58 shelter beds the Mission provides year-round for local homeless men and 120 beds committed to men, women, and children in its residential recovery program.

"Winter weather takes a heavy toll on the health of homeless people. A warm place to sleep makes a huge difference," says Eric Bauer, executive director of Portland Rescue Mission.

The Portland Rescue Mission also supplies homeless people with socks throughout the cold weather season.

Portland Rescue Mission also provides free breakfast and dinner daily; more than 300,000 meals per year.

If you would like to help, the Mission is in need of socks and blankets.

You can drop them off at either the West Burnside shelter or Shepherd's Door on Northeast Halsey.
