PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A downtown Portland bank robbery led to a rush hour manhunt around Portland State University on Thursday.

Officers said 32-year-old Steven Gentry was armed with a gun and demanded money during the 4 p.m. robbery at the Wells Fargo branch at 1900 SW Fifth Ave.

After he took an undisclosed amount of money, he fled the bank and seen heading westbound through downtown, police said.

The search for the suspect around Interstate 405 and Highway 26 backed up evening traffic in the Vista Ridge Tunnel.

A Portland police SERT team responded to an apartment on Southwest 11th Avenue, but three people exited before the team could arrive.

Two people were released, but Gentry was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a U.S. marshal's hold. He is expected to face federal bank robbery charges.

Police have not yet recovered the gun that was used in the crime.
