Fluoride referendum to be put to a vote

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Voters in Portland will get the chance to weigh in on whether the city should add fluoride to the water supply.

Last month, opponents of the idea filed more than 43,000 signatures with the city's election office.  On Wednesday, election officials announced they had verified enough signatures to put the issue on the May 2014 ballot.

Back in September, the Portland City Council voted to approve a plan to add fluoride to the city's water supply.  The decision was met with some serious opposition.  Now, voters will make the final decision.
