Christmas tree arrives at Pioneer Courthouse Square

Posted: Updated:

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Carolers were on hand as Portland's Christmas tree arrived in downtown today. It was escorted by the Get A Life Marching Band, an antique tractor and Santa himself.

The tree is so big, a crane was called in to lift the 75-foot-tall Douglas-fir into place. This is the 10th tree Stimson Lumber Company has donated. It was grown on sustainable forest lands near Gaston, OR.

Over the next week the tree will undergo an extensive trimming process and some branches will even be reattached. Once it's ready, more than 14,000 LED lights will be strung along it's bows.

The annual tree lighting ceremony will take place the day after Thanksgiving at 5:30 p.m.
