JACKSON COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

When Oregon State Police finally caught a man they said was speeding, troopers said they uncovered an entirely different crime.

Ty Whitten, 49, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry going 81 mph in a 45 mph zone on Highway 99N, according to OSP. When a trooper tried to stop him, he allegedly took off at speeds of more than 100 mph and got away from authorities.

A short time later, the car was found abandoned on a dead-end road near Interstate 5. With the help of more troopers and Jackson County Sheriff's deputies, they tracked down Whitten in a wooded neighborhood about 20 minutes later.

According to troopers, Whitten had several pounds of marijuana, as well as meth and drug paraphernalia.

Police in Grants Pass also accuse him of making and selling meth, as well as running from the law there.
