VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -
A dog that does so much for a disabled local veteran everyday is now the one that needs some help.
Buddy is a service dog for John Peek. The Vancouver man has diabetes and he said Buddy can tell when his blood sugar gets too low at night and jumps on the bed to wake him up.
Peek said Buddy has saved his life numerous times.
But now Buddy is the one who needs some extra support. The dog has two tumors that have grown in size over the years.
Doctors want to remove them, but Peek said he's living on a small pension and the surgery is too expensive.
He's reaching out to others to get Buddy the operation he needs. Peek said Buddy is more than just a service dog. He said if you simply mention Buddy's name at the Portland VA Medical Center, you will hear many stories about what a great dog he is.
"He means everything to me," Peek said. "If I lost him, I don't know what I'd do."
If you'd like to help, there's an account setup for Buddy at the Hazel Dell branch of U.S. Bank.
