Police are investigating an early morning armed robbery in Portland's Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.

It happened at The Daily Planet on SE Powell Boulevard at 3:49 a.m. on Monday.

According to investigators, a bartender told officers he had closed up and was walking to his car when a man wearing a mask and carrying a handgun approached him.

That man, police said, ordered the bartender go back and open the bar.

The victim told police that as he struggled to open the door to the bar, the robber fired one shot.

The bartender got the door open and the suspect then fired an additional round, detectives said.

The robber ran out the front door and was last seen running eastbound on SE Powell Boulevard.

He did not get away with any money from the bar and the bartender was not hurt, police said.

Portland Police officers established a perimeter and a Gresham Police Department K-9 united helped search for the suspect, but he was not found.

The robber is described as a white man in his 20s, 5'10" tall, with a slender build.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black and gray checkered shirt and mask.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the Robbery Detail at (503) 823-0405.
