MOUNT HOOD, OR (KPTV) -

The snow has been falling in bunches on Mount Hood.

At Mount Hood Meadows Ski Resort, workers said it's a wet, heavy blanket, which is ideal for building a base. However, the resort is not yet ready to make an announcement on an opening date, but is hopeful it could be by Thanksgiving.

It was a similar scene at Timberline Lodge, where eager snowboarders made the trip up the mountain to hike around and see just how close they are to getting on their boards again.

"We just wanted to come check out the snow up here. Hear it was snowing, so just wanted to see how it was," said Omar Vargas.

"And how close the season is," added Charlie Berry.

According to Fox 12 meteorologists, snow levels will hover right around pass elevations, with some light snow expected above 4,000 feet over the next 24 hours.

Snow storm totals could top 12 inches at the highest elevations.
