GARDINER, OR (KPTV) -
An Oregon soldier was killed during combat in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense said Capt. James Nehl, 37, of Gardiner, died Nov. 9 in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan.
Military leaders said it happened from small arms fire while he was on patrol.
Nehl was assigned 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, KS.
