Rose Festival walk benefits local center for grieving families

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

During a ceremony Tuesday, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon and the Portland Rose Festival presented a $10,478 donation to the Dougy Center, an organization that helps grieving children and families.

The money for the donation came from the proceeds of the 2012 Grand Floral Walk in June. Nearly 2,000 walkers participated in the 4.2-mile walk to help Regence and the Rose Festival reach their goal of $50,000 in total contributions over five years.

Portland Rose Festival Foundation President Todd Johnston was joined on stage by Festival CEO Jeff Curtis and Grand Floral Walk Chair Liza McQuade to present the donation.

Executive Director Donna Schuurman, Vice Chair of the Board Peggy Maguire and Chair of the Board Diane Kinkade accepted the check on behalf of the Dougy Center.
