PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
New apartment complex construction that doesn't include tenant parking is becoming increasingly common in Portland, and it's causing frustration among area homeowners.
The city of Portland said 29 parking-free apartment buildings have been permitted in the past year and a half. However, most of the tenants of those apartments are car owners.
Tenants living in parking-free complexes use nearby residential areas to park their cars, and that has many homeowners upset.
"The cars spill over into the residential areas and residents are concerned. They don't want to have a Northwest 23rd Street type of situation where parking becomes really, really difficult for the residents," said Al Ellis with the Beaumont-Wilshire Neighborhood Association.
Local neighborhood associations are hoping to stall future developments and convince the city to prevent those types of complexes from going up.
