Neighborhood gun threat puts Kalama schools in lockdown

KALAMA, WA (KPTV) -

A report of a disturbance involving a gun put the Kalama School District into lockdown.

Kalama police were called out to South Seventh and Cedar streets at 12:45 p.m. Officers said a suspect identified as Eric Johnson threatened two females with a gun and took off on a bicycle.

Police then received reports he was just north of the high school. Authorities briefly surrounded a home on North Fourth Street, but did not find him.

Kalama schools remained in lockdown at 3 p.m., but administrators followed routine procedures for the end of the school day, except children who normally walk home were instead released to parents.

The district also canceled all after-school activities, including parent-teacher conferences, National Honor Society meetings and sports practices.

Police stress none of the events as part of this investigation happened on school property and students were not in danger.

Eric Johnson was arrested just before 5 p.m., according to Cowlitz Count dispatchers.
