WASHINGTON D.C. (KPTV) -

Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives selected Oregon Rep. Greg Walden to fill one of the top leadership positions in Congress.

Walden was selected to chair the National Republican Congressional Committee. He has served as deputy chairman for the last four years.

The committee is devoted to maintaining and increasing the number of Republicans in the House.

Walden said he is honored and humbled by the unanimous vote of confidence. He said it's an important job that he believes will benefit Oregon and the pacific northwest.

"It gives us an opportunity to weigh in and bring a northwest-Oregon perspective to some of these debates and issues and to move an agenda that I care a lot about: Natural resources, on technology and innovation, forward," Walden said.

Walden will remain chairman of the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology.
