BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -
TriMet said an accused DUII driver who crashed onto the MAX tracks at the Sunset Transit Center caused $40,000 to $50,000 in damage.
It happened late Tuesday night and shut down MAX service through the transit center for more than 16 hours. Trains were up and running again by 3:45 p.m., more than two hours ahead of initial estimates.
Crews had to use a crane to lift the car out of the tunnel.
Police said it appeared that 27-year-old Jeff Roberton, from Vancouver, crashed off the roadway when he tried to take the Highway 217 southbound exit from Highway 26.
He was arrested on charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence and criminal mischief.
TriMet said Thursday the agency will be seeking restitution from the driver.
