PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The Portland Trail Blazers' ability to block shots will have a positive impact on and off the court this season.
The team opened up its practice facility Thursday to children affected by cancer and their families.
It's all part of the Block Out Cancer program.
Each time a Trail Blazer blocks a shot during a game, Genentech donates $25 to the Children's Cancer Association.
Rookie Meyers Leonard teamed up with Blazer alum Jerome Kersey to kick off this year's program.
"I want them to know that I'm not just a basketball player," Leonard said. "I care about them and about what's around me, so the ability to affect people's lives and be a positive influence is great."
Genentech and the Trail Blazers' Make It Better Foundation donated $15,000 to the CCA.
