PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Some local kids have serious bragging rights after a phone call that was out of this world.
Kids at Vestal K-8 School in NE Portland did a live chat with astronauts at the International Space Station yesterday.
Vestal was one of 25 schools nationwide that was in on the zero-gravity video chat.
Science teacher Carla Oesterle told FOX 12 the school was invited to talk to the astronauts because of her work with NASA's "Teaching from Space" program.
"We've been able to ask questions, listen to how it's like in space, what they can look forward to in our future. That's what we've been doing," said Oesterle.
The chat is an annual event held in honor of International Education Week.
In October, Oesterle received the "Outstanding Science Teacher Award" from the Oregon Science Teachers Association.
