Trailer battery thefts on the rise in Milwaukie

MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -

Police in Milwaukie are recommending that people with travel trailers remove the batteries, following a string of battery thefts in the area.

Thieves are targeting travel trailers, boats and other recreational vehicles parked in residential driveways. They are apparently cashing in the batteries at recycling exchange businesses for $7 to $10 a piece.

John Henry, a victim who lives on Southeast Filbert Street, discovered a stranger in the process of stealing two batteries from a storage container installed on the tongue of his travel trailer. The man got away on a bicycle.

The suspect is described as a white man in his mid-to-late 30s, weighing about 160 pounds. He has short brown hair and light facial hair. He was last seen wearing a plaid flannel shirt and blue jeans.

Milwaukie police ask that anyone who sees any suspicious activity in their neighborhood to call 911 immediately.
