PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A burglary call in north Portland ended with a man trying to fight with police about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

A Portland police representative said Thomas Berry, 30, was found hiding in the shrubs near a building at 5228 N. Lombard St.

Police said officers were called to the building on a report of a burglary alarm.

When an officer started to talk to Berry, police said he became uncooperative and attempted to punch an officer in the face.

Officers got into a brief fight with Berry and during the struggle, police report that Berry dropped an open switchblade knife.

Police said that Berry wasn't going willingly, and as they put him the back of a police car, they said he started to fight again and ended up kicking an officer in the chest.

Officers on scene did find several window screens that were cut and one window at the location had pry marks.

Berry was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on numerous charges, including attempted burglary, disorderly conduct and assaulting a public safety officer.
