Portland's Transportation Maintenance department is on alert as concerns mount over fallen leaves clogging city storm drains.
The city's Leaf Cleanup Day program began earlier this month but is far from finished.
Many streets in northwest Portland's Alphabet District, St. John's and Mt. Tabor haven't been cleared all season. On Northwest Johnson near the 405 freeway, piles of leaves stretch out into the street causing slippery conditions for commuters.
"The leaves make it a little hazardous for biking because it's pretty slippery," said resident and bike commuter Devin Jagoda, "especially if you have skinny tires."
"It's really easy to slip."
Monday's flood watch is for urban areas as well as smaller rivers and streams. There is also concern that there could be small landslides because of the storm.
Residents are asked to call the Transportation Maintenance hotline at 503-823-1700 to report any flooding.
