ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -

A semi crash has shut down The Astoria-Megler Bridge Monday.

Transportation authorities said high winds and heavy rain are wreaking havoc on coastal highways. The Washington State Department of Transportation said there were five closures on Highway 101 between the bridge and the city of Raymond Monday.

They were the result of downed trees and a car fire.

The Oregon State Department of Transportation said The Astoria-Megler Bridge closure could be a lengthy one. It happened at 10:45 a.m. and the bridge remained closed two hours later.

Investigators said high winds blew the truck and trailer onto its side. The 53-foot trailer was empty as it was going across the bridge.

The driver, Rodney Woodzell, 50, of Dayton, OH suffered minor injuries.

Other road closures crews had to tackle in the area on Highway 101 Monday included just east of Long Beach, two miles north of the State Route 4 junction, north of the South Nemah River Bridge and at Smith Creek Road.

The highway was also closed Monday morning just north of Lincoln City after trees fell into power lines.
