ALOHA, OR (KPTV) -

A 14-year-old boy ended up in the hospital after being hit by a car while he crossed the street.

It happened at around 6 p.m. Tuesday near Farmington Road and 189th Avenue in Aloha.

Washington County Deputies say a pair of teenagers ran into the road to cross the street, but a car hit one of them.

That teen was taken to the hospital, but is expected to survive.

A man who lives nearby says a lack of street lights makes the area dangerous.

"I'm not surprised at all," said Jean Maue. "There have been a number of car accidents in the area. People have been hit, and I'm surprised that it hasn't been addressed sooner."

Deputies say the area was very dark at the time which made it hard to see.

The driver was not given a ticket. She told deputies the boy appeared in front of her car so suddenly she didn't have time to apply the brakes.
