Violent home invasion robbery triggers manhunt in Lake Oswego

Posted: Updated:

Police say a lone robber brazenly broke into a home, assaulted and tied up the homeowner, and then stole some items before escaping out the back door. The suspect is still at large.

Lake Oswego Police responded to the home in the 800 block of Boca Ratan Drive at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, after the victim managed to free himself and call 911.  Police say he wasn't badly hurt.

The victim's wife tells Fox 12 she received a frantic call from her husband right after he called police.

According to Christina Hill, the family had just returned earlier in the day from a trip to Las Vegas. Friday evening she had taken the kids to pick some things up at an apartment in Beaverton.

That was during the time the robber allegedly kicked down the front door of her home and attacked her husband. She speculated that perhaps the suspect had cased the house and assumed that it was still empty.

"This is not the type of neighborhood at all…. So I just don't know what else to say.  It's unbelievably shocking," said Hill.

The incident is especially disturbing to a community recently shaken by the murder of Fritz Hayes, who was killed in his own home by an invader just a few blocks away. The suspect in Hayes' murder, Eric Meiser, was arrested after a manhunt and is now awaiting trial in Clackamas County.

Police K-9 units were unsuccessful in tracking down the suspect in Friday's home robbery. A vague description is only that of a man about 5' 10" tall, wearing some sort of mask and dark clothing.
