PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Crime scene tape is wrapped around a Portland State University dormitory building as detectives investigated a report of an attack and sexual assault Monday morning.

A 27-year-old woman said she woke up in an alley behind the building after being attacked by a man she didn't know. Portland Police arrived on the scene shortly after 3 a.m.

A police spokesman said a woman told them she was walking home to her dorm near Southwest 10th Avenue and Yamhill Street when she noticed a man following her.

She said she was then hit over the head and woke up later in an alley behind her dorm at PSU's Stratford building, located Southwest 10th Avenue and Market Street.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment while police officers and a K9 unit searched the neighborhood for the suspect. Police cleared the scene around 6 a.m.

Police released a new description of the attacker: a white man in his mid 30s with shaggy, light brown hair, pronounced cheekbones and an unshaven face. The victim, who has since been released from the hospital, said she did not know the suspect.

Anyone with information about this sexual assault is asked to call the Portland Police Bureau's Sex Crime Unit at (503) 823-0400. Anyone with emergency information should call 911.
