Five-way tie for Southern Oregon city council seat

Posted: Updated:
CAVE JUNCTION, OR (AP) -

There's a five-way tie for a seat on the Cave Junction City Council -- each person got three write-in votes each.

So the election may be settled by chance, through drawing a name from a hat, for example.

After the incumbent decided not to run, 62 voters wrote in names.

Josephine County Clerk Art Harvey tells the Grants Pass Daily Courier (http://bit.ly/UNe642 ) the top finisher got seven votes but was disqualified for not being a registered voter.

Cave Junction City Recorder Ryan Nolan will have to confirm that the five are registered voters who have lived in the city at least a year.

Then, the town charter says the City Council must determine the precise way of settling a tie through a "public drawing of lots."
