ESTACADA, OR (KPTV) -

An Estacada teen says he fought off a thief that tried to steal from a local restaurant.

The incident, which happened Nov. 19 at Sabor Latino in Estacada, was first reported by The Estacada Eagle over the weekend.

The teen, Kenny Mendoza, 19, is the son of the restaurant owner. He said a man came in to use the bathroom, but then tried to walk out with his laptop.

Mendoza said the computer contains all his work from Portland Community College on it, so he chased the would-be thief down.

The pair got into a fight, Mendoza said he was able to get his computer back but the man ran off.

"After he hit me and he punched me twice I was like I've got to get this guy," Mendoza said. "He has to pay for the consequences of what he did.  Not only is he trying to steal my property, he hit me."

Police said the thief left important evidence at the restaurant.

Officers were still checking out the evidence and working to track the man down as of Monday morning.
