Pilot escapes helicopter crash with only minor injuries

SHERIDAN, OR (KPTV) -

A helicopter pilot walked away from a crash in Yamhill County with only minor injuries.

It happened Tuesday at a tree farm on Cherry Hill Road near Sheridan. Deputies said the helicopter was transporting Christmas trees when it lost its load and the chopper became unstable.

The pilot decided to make a hard landing rather than risk an all-out crash.

The helicopter appeared to be destroyed, but investigators said the pilot came out of it with only minor injuries, including a bump on the head.
